The founders of famous sportswear brands Adidas and Puma, were brothers.

Surprisingly, two of the world’s most prominent shoe companies are the product of a bad family feud between two siblings! Yes, the founder of German sportswear company Adidas, Adolf “Adi” Dassler, and the founder of the famous shoe brand Puma, Rudolf Dassler, were brothers.

The German brothers launched their shoe company, Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik or the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory, from their mother’s laundry room together in the 1920s.

However, due to rifts in their relationship in later years, they mutually agreed to split the business in 1948. This laid the foundations of the two celebrated shoe companies, Adidas and Puma, as we know of them today.
